On September 16, 2020, Amazon Music entered the podcast distribution business by serving up more than 70,000 podcasts in the U.S., UK, Germany and Japan.

Like to binge-listen to podcasts? Your listening choices just got amplified. Want to start a business podcast? The timing could not be better. With the world on quarantine, the hunger for new audio content shows no signs of slowing down. According to Nielsen, as of August 2020, there are 1 million active podcasts and more than 30 million podcast episodes.

Starting your own business podcast isn’t something you should overlook. Many businesses have built podcasting into their marketing strategy.

Podcasting — The New Business Enhancer

Podcasting is not just another channel in the music streaming wars. It is a business enhancer that can multiply the reach of your message. According to Edison Research, a new podcasting distribution channel – and one that is connected to smart speakers, can only amplify your listener base. When an Amazon Echo owner asks Alexa to play a podcast, the default now will be to pull up the show from Amazon Music.

For now, Amazon’s launch includes many podcasts from an array of publishers, including iHeartMedia, NPR, Vox, Cadence13, PodcastOne, NBC Audio, Pushkin Industries, The Skimm, and yours truly, BurstMarketing.

Should you start a business podcast?

If Amazon Music’s blast into podcasting does not grab you by both ears, maybe this message from Forbes Business Council will convince you. “Your customers are listening to and being influenced every day by what they hear on podcasts. Make sure you’re one of the voices they’re hearing.” Ready to start a business podcast? We’re all ears. Check out our post on How to Start a Business Podcast. Among other benefits, a business podcast can help you reach new audiences, grow revenues and increase positive association with your brand.
